Inverleigh might be known for its quiet, rural charm but there are plenty of activities to see and do within the town itself and surrounding area.
Music
If you are keen on live music, the Beyond the Valley music and camping festival occurs annually in late December – early January. Taking place a short 15 minutes’ drive away at Barunah Plains Homestead, you can ring in the new year over 4 days, witnessing your favourite local and international acts. Looking for something a bit more local? The Piano Bar frequently hosts live music at the Inverleigh Community Hall.
Kid Friendly
If you have kids (or are a keen railway enthusiast), take a short drive and head to the Lethbridge Bluestone Railway Station. Recently refurbished, the station serves as a community arts and crafts space for all to enjoy. There’s also a Shelby Duck Race held annually in February featuring 1500 ducks (of the yellow rubber kind, not the live kind) racing down the Leigh River.
The Good Friday Appeal Family Fun Day is dedicated to raising money for various charitable causes. It’s a free event boasting an Easter egg hunt, face painting, teddy bear hospital, petting zoo, live auction, entertainment and is open to all ages.
And for the furry ones, the annual Dachshund Derby Day takes place in March within the town. This unique event is family and small dog friendly and the Derby is open to all breeds up to 30cm.
Wineries
On the weekends, take a short trip to the Moorabool Valley wine region. Known for its cool climate Pinot Noir, several family-run cellar doors are dotted along the picturesque region. Featuring Lethbridge Wines, Barwon Ridge, Austin’s, Clyde Park, Spence, Bannockburn Estate, Provenance and Rowsley Fault Vineyards. As you explore, be sure to also check out the various delicacies along the trail from Moorabool Valley Chocolate to Meredith Dairy.
Art Gallery
The Geelong Art Gallery is one of Australia’s oldest art galleries and a 30 minute drive from Berthon Park. Hosting engaging art experiences and rotating exhibitions, entry is generally free.
Markets
Held monthly, the Bannockburn Golden Plains Farmer’s Market offers local produce, handmade and artisan goods, as well as live entertainment. The Inverleigh Book Bazaar is an annual gathering for literature enthusiasts to explore and exchange books within the community.
